  53. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  54. -------------------------
  55. o   An installation program is provided to assist you in
  56.     loading RENEGADE ROBOT RETALIATION on to your hard disk.
  57.     For this program to work, please enter the following
  58.     command at the DOS prompt:
  59.  
  60.                  INSTALL C:
  61.  
  62.     where C: = hard drive on which the program is to be
  63.                  installed
  64.  
  65. o   Substitute other drive letter as appropriate.   Please
  66.     note you must have 1.4 Megabytes free on your hard drive
  67.     for the program to load properly.
  68.  
  69. o   This installation program will create a directory named
  70.     c:\JUST4ME\RRR on your hard drive and store all the needed
  71.     files in it.
  72.  
  73. o   If you prefer, you can also run the program directly from
  74.     a floppy disk or CD-ROM by typing GO at the DOS prompt.
  75.     Please note that the program will proceed at a slower pace
  76.     due to the slower transfer times of these media.
  77.  
  78. o   Please do not try to save your game if operating from the
  79.     CD-ROM as this media does not allow such operation.
  80.  
  81. EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
  82. ----------------------
  83. o   Due to the graphics and computational intensive nature of
  84.     this program, we recommend the following minimum equipment
  85.     for running RENEGADE ROBOT RETALIATION:
  86.  
  87.     --  IBM (or compatible) 486 DX4 with 50 MHz clock speed or
  88.         faster
  89.     --  At least 1.0 Megabyte of video RAM
  90.  
  91. o   Movement speeds within the maze are automatically adjusted
  92.     to the speed of the processor used.  Please note that
  93.     animation will be even smoother with faster processors due
  94.     to their more frequent screen updates.
  95.  
  96. o   Mouse, sound card, and joystick support are also provided to
  97.     make your game playing more realistic and enjoyable.
  98.  
  99. o   You will be asked to select NO SOUND, PC SOUND, or SOUND CARD
  100.     at the beginning of the game.  We suggest you select the best
  101.

  105.     possible alternative consistent with your equipment. 
  106.  
  107. o   RENEGADE ROBOT RETALIATION automatically detects what sound
  108.     card you are using -- i.e., there is no need for you to enter
  109.     input ports, IRQ's, or DMA.  If your machine locks up for any
  110.     reason, your sound card is not supported.  Please reboot and
  111.     select either PC SOUND or NO SOUND.
  112.  
  113. o   Next, you will be asked to select how you want to control
  114.     your game -- i.e., keyboard, mouse, and/or joystick.
  115.     If you have a joystick, we suggest you use it since it
  116.     offers the best possible control over your remote control
  117.     tank.
  118.  
  119. o   If a joystick is selected and our software confirms that it
  120.     can find and operate with it, you will be asked to calibrate
  121.     the joystick.  Because of the wide variety of joysticks, each
  122.     with their own particular characteristics, this step is 
  123.     necessary to ensure proper operation.  Please follow the
  124.     on-screen instructions.
  125.  
  126. OVERALL OBJECTIVE
  127. -----------------
  128. o   To protect the underground complex by "taking out" as many
  129.     renegade robots as possible with your remote control R3 squad
  130.     tank. 
  131.  
  132. LEVELS
  133. ------
  134. o   There are ten (10) levels within the R3 underground complex.
  135.     It is easier to survive in the lower levels than in the
  136.     higher levels.
  137.  
  138. o   You can choose to enter any level as many times as you want.
  139.  
  140. o   To succeed, you must conserve your energy and health so that
  141.     you can reach the pickup point in the Southeast corner of
  142.     each level. 
  143.  
  144. o   At the end of each level, your health and energy will be
  145.     restored.
  146.  
  147. SCORING/EARNINGS
  148. ----------------
  149. o   You earn money by taking out robots.
  150.  
  151. o   Since robots on the higher levels are more difficult to kill,
  152.     you earn more for them than the lower level robots.
  153.

  157. o   After you lose your R3 robot (by running out of energy or
  158.     health) or choose to exit (by hitting <ESC>), your earnings
  159.     and the value of your purchased equipment are totalled
  160.     into a final score.
  161.  
  162. EQUIPMENT
  163. ---------
  164. o   Your R3 tank comes equipped with a standard vaporizer,
  165.     battery, and armor.
  166.  
  167. o   At the end of each level, you can choose to upgrade these.
  168.     In addition, you can purchase shields and/or sensors.
  169.  
  170. o   Payment for these upgrades will be withdrawn from your
  171.     earnings.  You will be promptly informed if you have
  172.     insufficient funds.
  173.  
  174. o   You can return purchased equipment for credit at the end of
  175.     each level.
  176.  
  177. o   This money can then be used to make alternate equipment
  178.     selections.
  179.  
  180. OPERATION
  181. ---------
  182. o   To move through the opening screens more quickly, hit the
  183.     <ENTER> key repeatedly.
  184.  
  185. o   To move your tank, use the arrow keys, roll your mouse, or
  186.     tilt your joystick.
  187.  
  188. o   To open doors, hit the space bar, click the left mouse
  189.     button, or push button two on your joystick.
  190.  
  191. o   To use your laser, hit the <CTRL> key, click the right
  192.     mouse button, or push button one on your joystick.
  193.  
  194. o   To activate your shields (if already purchased), hit the
  195.     "S" key.
  196.  
  197. o   If you forget how to operate these controls, use the
  198.     <F1> key to call a HELP screen.
  199.  
  200. o   While in the maze, you can call a map to the screen by
  201.     hitting the <F2> button.  Your return from the map by
  202.     hitting the <F4> button.

  209. o   You can call a summary of your present equipment to the
  210.     screen by hitting the <F3> button.

  212. o   Toggle sound on and off by pressing the <F5> button.

  214. o   You can adjust the speed (fore/aft and rotational) of your
  215.     tank by hitting the <F6> button.  Follow the instructions
  216.     provided on the screen.  Slow down the rotational speed if
  217.     you are having any difficulties aiming your tank's laser.
  218.  
  219. LOADING/SAVING GAMES
  220. --------------------
  221.  
  222. o   At the beginning of each level, you will be given an
  223.     opportunity to either load or save a game.
  224.  
  225. o   You can save your game in or load your game from five
  226.     different slots.
  227.  
  228. o   We suggest you save your game frequently.

  369. not to register it.  To use it, simply move to the DOS
  370. prompt for the directory containing RENEGADE ROBOT RETALIATION
  371. (usually C:\JUST4ME\RRR if you used our installation program)
